ABOUT THE ARTIST

John Harris (1937-2002) was born in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from the University of Oregon where he studied Architecture and Landscape Architecture, he received a Masters Degree in Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art. John lived and worked in New York City for a decade where he gained artistic recognition for his painting, sculpture, conceptual art and unique plexiglass furniture designs. His work has been widely collected by major, international clients including architects, designers, collectors, corporations and museums. Relocating to California, he continued to develop and produce distinctive art and furniture from studios in Venice and Big Sur, using wood, steel, copper and other natural materials. In later years, his signature designs became the tree stump tables, a tribute to his deep and abiding connection to nature, which imbued his entire life.
A native of southern New Jersey, Kate Cunningham graduated with a degree in art and literature from Boston University. She later relocated to Los Angeles where she worked as a visual artist, singer, songwriter, record producer and teacher of yoga and meditation for many years. After meeting John Harris, Ms. Cunningham mentored and collaborated with him in the design and production of his furniture. Together, they secured representation by exclusive, high-end showrooms nationally. After John Harris' passing, the demand escalated and Ms. Cunningham continues to manufacture for major clients and retailers internationally.
